About the Author
I am a 38 year old mom of one awesome little boy. In a lot of ways, I am just like any other mom. I spend my days tackling a neverending list of household chores, trying to convince my husband (who would rather eat lard with a spoon) to try my latest recipe, and playing with our wonderfully weird child.
In other ways, I look very different. I have a genetic disorder called marfan syndrome with hypermoblity. As a result, I have been a wheelchair user for several years. A combination of medications, surgeries and overall poor health caused me to lose all of my teeth a little over a year ago. Due to my condition, I am not able to wear traditional dentures.
This brings me to the point of this blog. I recently received a small inheritance from my grandmother which will allow me to get dental implants. As strange as it sounds, this is a life changing event that I couldn't have even imagined a year ago because of the cost. I have never spent this much money on anything before, including a car, so I was anxious to hear from others like me who had already experienced implants. Unfortunately, I have not been able to find any information written by the patient prospective.
I started this blog in the hope that my experience might be able to help someone else in the future. I am not a doctor so please don't count on me for medical advice. My plan is to share my thoughts throughout the process and pass on any tips that I pick up along the way. I do plan on sharing before and after pictures, but I would like to ask that you stick to constructive criticism. This is not my first time on the internet and I realize that sensitive snowflakes tend to be ridiculed especially on their looks. However, since I am already aware that I look like the evil queen when she gave Snow White the poisoned apple commenting it below would be redundant.
